Technical Introduction to Photovoltaics (2 days)

At the end of the course the participants understand how solar cells work and know the different types of solar cells. They will understand how crystalline silicon (x-Si) cells are processed and characterized.

Subjects during this 2-day are:

Operating principle of solar cells

Different types of cells (x-Si, thin film)

Industrial processing of x-Si cells: from wafer to cell,with theoretical background and quality control aspects of each processing step:
Texturing and saw damage removal
Application of emitter and diffusion
Glass removal
Deposition of antireflection coating
Metallization and firing
Edge isolation

Several characterization techniques applied to solar cells
Theory – principles of operation and interpretation of data
Practical – software simulation of x-Si cells, IV measurement and spectral  response measurement
